Goodbye To The News

November 10, 2016

I watched the absolute death of journalism, of unbiased, objective reporting of the facts on election night.

Specifically I watched CBS destroy what was left of my belief in the existence of it.  Even more specifically I watched Gayle King, Charlie Rose, Norah O’Donnell, Bob Shieffer, and John Dickerson destroy it.  They broke my heart in the bargain.  I really liked and admired these people.  I thought a lot of them.  I believed that they were true journalists.  As it turns out, they are the exact opposite.

As I watched them fumble, flat footed, for an explanation for how they had not known what was going to happen during this election I realized that they thought they knew what was going to happen and had prepared their entire night based on that. They had decided long before election night that Hillary was going to win and that she was going to win early.  They had their talking points all laid out, their line up of factoids set out in order of appearance.  They probably even knew what time they would call the election and sign off.  I laughed at them for being silent as they sat in disbelief.  And then I got angry.  I don’t think I have ever been so disappointed by such naked dereliction of duty.

That isn’t reporting! That’s not journalism! That was a talk show.  Just like The View. The Talk. The Real.  That was nothing more than a bunch of people with an over inflated sense of their own importance sitting around trying to influence the ignorant, uneducated, hillbilly, redneck, unwashed hick people in their audience to vote how they wanted them to.  And they believed that they had done it. They believed that they had that election sewn up just the way they wanted it to be.  They were stupified when it didn’t go the way they meant for it to.

One of the most important factors in a successful democracy is a free press.  A free press assures that the people get an accurate and unbiased reporting of the facts surrounding the important events in the country and the world so that the citizenry can make informed decisions.   These people aren’t reporters of the news, they are participants in it. That makes them not only useless to us, it makes them destructive to our democracy!

To quote Walter Cronkite, “Objective journalism and an opinion column are about as similar as the Bible and Playboy Magazine.” You my ex friends are most certainly Not the Bible! You’re not Playboy either, that’s crappy to Playboy and they haven’t done anything to deserve that comparison.

I hope when things settle down and you all have time to reflect on what has gone on that you feel the shame that we feel towards you.  I hope you realize the harm you’ve done and are repentant. I hope you have some sort of understanding of the breach of trust you have caused.  I don’t hold out much hope for that. You can’t un-ring that bell anyway.

How do you like the result you created? Was it what you hoped for?

Random Thoughts – January 2, 2012

January 2, 2012

Happy New Year!  Hope your holidays have been happy.

We had a great December. It was busy as all get out but fun just the same.  We went to a family dinner at a local steakhouse.  It was fantastic!  The kids had a blast, the adults got to catch up, and our cousin came home from far away and it was wonderful to have her home.  She is basically the driving force behind all significant family gatherings.  If not for her we would spend half our time together saying how we really need to spend more time together.  We also went to our youngest daughter’s house for a Christmas celebration.  She, her husband, and our youngest grandchild hosted our little celebration. It was the first time she had Christmas in her own home and it was really great.  The baby had a ball and entertained us all with his cute antics and his darling little sweet face.

The only problem with the trip to our daughter’s house was the fact that it’s about two hours away.  That means that I was in a vehicle riding for about four hours that day.  For those of you who don’t know what that means…it means that for four hours that day my cerebellum was being jiggled farther and farther down into my spinal column.  It bites.  I am just now starting to feel better after massive quantities of ibuprofen and many days on my back.  But it was worth it.

We have had Christmas programs to go to for both The Buddha and Princess Bella.  They were both awesome!  Bella’s was first and it was a band concert.  Isn’t it funny how you can pick out your own child out of all the rest?  I love that.  And Bella did an excellent job!  I always feel like crying when I go to these things.  I’m just so proud.

Buddha’s was a dance recital.  He rules.  The dancers were all wonderful.  Even more amazing was that they choreographed the dances themselves.  As I sat and watched them I was struck by how much creativity was there on that stage.  Buddha was in two dances: one in a large group and one with just three of them.  He is also the only male in the dance classes.  When he started doing his own dance in the one with three people, everyone in the audience started calling out his name.  He got a standing ovation at the end and everyone had a natural fit over him.  It made me so proud!

We had a great Christmas Day.  It was just the six of us and it was nice and quiet.  The kids both got what they asked for (which was very little).  They both asked for just one main thing and said that if they got that they would be happy if they got anything else at all.  They were true to their word and were both happy and satisfied.  The really nice thing is that we won’t be trying to pay for it all well into this year.

We go pick up Buddha’s car this week from his other grandparents’ house.  Bless their very souls, they are paying his insurance!!!  Which, if you have young drivers around the house, you know is incredibly expensive!  If it had been up to us he would have been 21 years old and just getting his licence because there is NO WAY we could have afforded it!  They passed a new law last night (thaaaat’s right, last night) that requires him to have a driving log that has at least 60 hours of driving time on it, done over a 6 week period, before he can get the first level of his driver’s licence.  He is totally cheesed off.  I am very happy about it.  I think  know it will be a wonderful thing for him and everyone else on the road!

So….there’s the update.  Now for the second half of our program…..

To the Republican Party – You would not be having  near as much trouble finding a standout candidate if you would stop trying to put a candidate in the white house who would keep the status quo.  The country hasn’t forgotten that a Republican administration, defined by greed at any cost, is largely responsible for getting our country and our economy in the sad and sorry state it’s in today.  You should instead be telling us how you are going to do things differently.  Not differently from the current administration(whose hands you have tied at every turn in one of the most appalling attempts at mis-direction I have personally ever seen), but differently from what you yourselves have done in the past.  You would stand a much better chance of achieving your goals if you would do that.

To Michelle Bachman – Chilling.  I saw you on the CBS news show this morning and you strike me as one of the most incredibly dangerous people in the world today.  You made the hair on the back of my neck twitch when you so blithely decided that traipsing out some massive weaponry and putting embargos in place strategically around Israel is a good response to Iran having nuclear capabilities!  WTF????  What, exactly, gives the U.S., in your mind, the right to “punish” another nation for having exactly the same weaponry capabilities as we do?  Did it ever cross your mind that pissing in the Wheaties of another country is not necessarily the best option for foreign relations?

And while I’m on the subject let me just say that our country has a serious, and I mean SERIOUS, problem understanding that WE are not the only people in the world with a viewpoint, or rights, or the right to weaponry.  We believe that our country and our ways are the only ones that are right, but we do NOT extend the same right to opinion and therefore action, to anyone else.  Only we and our friends are allowed to be free to make up our own minds about what we want to do and believe.  The unmitigated gall of that crap is the very reason why a large majority of the countries of the world smile at our face, then  flip us off the minute our back is turned!!  This ridiculous policy, that it’s no fair hitting back , is bullshit.  Get the hell over it before we end up with bombing in OUR streets!!

P.S. Michelle….stop beating a dead horse and transfer your support to someone who might have an ice cube’s chance in hell of winning.  Just sayin.

I absolutely love the commercial where the kid is telling how his mom is addicted to denial.  I just can’t say how much I think the commercial is spot on.  As a parent, I have often dabbled in denial.  You can’t ….deny….(lololol) that it’s way easier than confronting a problem you don’t feel equipped to deal with effectively.  Unfortunately, the fallout from denial is way worse than the confrontation could have ever been.

Okay, I’m tapped out now and my brain is completely empty.  Ahhhh that feels better!

Random Thoughts of a WTF Nature 10/18/2011

October 18, 2011

WTF is the deal with re-making films and television shows?   Has imagination gone the way of personal freedom in this country?  Can no one come up with an original idea for a movie anymore?  Put forth some effort people!  How many horrible movies do we need to re-make?  And yet ANOTHER Charlie’s Angels?  Did we not get at least three different versions of that show the first time it was on? I mean, they changed the entire freakin cast several times, didn’t they?  It sure seemed like  it to me!  Then we got the movie version….OK, I liked that one.  Mainly because I really like the actresses in it. (WTF is Lucy Liu doing these days, anyway?)  NOW we get another television version of Charlie’s Angels.  Puhleaassee!!  Get up off your asses pencils and come up with something new!  Sheesh! (Footloose sucked the first time! Nuff said.)

WTF is the idea that commercials have to discuss, along with cute little graphics no less, bowels?  Seriously?  If you have questions about that, I suggest you go to your family doctor and talk about it with him/her.  Or you could take a little trip on the world wide web and get informed by a bunch of people who wrote all about their own bowels on Wiki.  If there isn’t one, after you talk to your doctor and get all the latest info on pooping, you could invent Wiki Pee dia. LOLOL  Damn sometimes I crack myself up!!

WTF is going on with young, gorgeous teachers suddenly deciding that the only place that they can knock out a piece is with a way underaged student?  Are there no grown ups out there that you can hook up with?  It boggles my mind.  Not to mention that these folks, who are teaching our children, still haven’t figured out that if you text (or sext) a kid, that kid will….I REPEAT WILL forward that text to every single person on their contacts list the instant you don’t give them the grade they want!  It’s really not rocket science. Figure it out!

WTF is up with the political situation in this country?  I have been shaking my head for so long that I think I have permanent vertigo!  Just so you folks who are professional politicians know….most of us hate you and everything you don’t stand for.  And in case any of you think you have fooled anyone, all of you Republicans and Democrats alike can stand around until Hell freezes over with your arms crossed in front of you and pointing in both directions at who is to blame, but every one of you greedy, power-hungry bastards and bitches are to blame for the situation our country is in at the moment.  I still believe that every single person who wants to be a politician for a living should be summarily shot and that every single citizen of this country should be required to serve a term as part of their duty to this country.  It couldn’t  come out any worse than it has so far!

WTF…..teenagers.  *sigh*  Need I say more?

WTF…..all the people protesting on Wall Street, and now everywhere else?   I’ve never been able to get a firm grasp on exactly what they are there for.  The pseudo-hippy dude that always seems to be the spokesman for the groups just fascinates me so much while he’s talking that I just fugue out and start reminiscing about “back in the day” when we were all involved in “the revolution” and stuff.  We were all so self  important and sure we were doing something.  Turns out what we were doing was hanging around somewhere getting all involved in one huge mutual admiration society.  We were all so busy standing around in a circle patting each other on the back that we completely missed what the powers that be were doing behind our backs.  I’m just sayin.

Suing McDonald’s?

March 8, 2011

Where do I start?

The Center for Science in the Public Interest is threatening to sue McDonald’s restaurant if they don’t stop putting toys into their Happy Meal.  WTF?  These people, whoever they are, are equating the happy meal toys with candy from child predators!  What????

Number One: This still being America, it is MY decision and MY decision alone what my children eat.  If I don’t want them to eat a Happy Meal I will tell them NO myself.  I don’t want or need your help to do it.  Rest assured, The Center for Science in the Public Interest…….I got this.

Number Two: Who the hell are you anyway?  I never asked some random anonymous group  you to represent my public interest.  I can handle that quite well all on my own, thank you very much.  I’ll be doing that right along with deciding whether or not my kids can have a Happy Meal!

Number Three:  Butt the hell out!  Here’s an idea…..how about you concern yourself with kids who have no one to make that decision for them?  How about you take your “science in the public interest” and use it for some real public interest?  You can use all of your influence and backing (from God only knows where) and fix the foster care system in this country. Or you can use it to try to infuse some common sense into politics, like maybe instead of forcing people to purchase medical insurance, you can set it up so that those of us who are free Americans can decide for ourselves if we WANT to buy insurance.  Oh wait…..That’s the opposite of what you do, right?

Number Four:  Who told you what the public interest is?  I don’t recall having a vote as to what my public interests are.  And I can promise you this: it will be twenty years after the end of the world before I let some random group whose aims and goals I know nothing about, decide anything for me.

Number Five:  What science?  Who are the “scientists” who are providing you with your information?  Is this real science or junk science?  Or is it maybe science of the “let’s see how many dumb asses we can get to back this lame idea without thinking about it” variety?

Number Six:  What ever happened to parents making the decisions for their children?  That is our JOB!  We decide what we are going to allow.  You can’t legislate stupid out of the world.  If we could, YOU would be the first to go!

*sigh*

Questions and Comments 11/23/10

November 24, 2010

1. So, do you think that the airports will hold up the airplanes while the protesters are getting all felt up by airport security?  Or will they go sailing off with a bunch of lucky people who were on standby?

2. Exactly who is the brilliant genius who thought up Four Loko?  How did this stuff get past the powers that be?  I think that Four Loko is a terrorist plot to undermine and destabilize our youth!  Wait…toooo late!!!!

3. How come no one in this country is screaming bloody murder about insurance companies and the crap they pull?  I mean, these people can take your money for years,  give you nothing in return, and then drop you like a hot rock when you use them for exactly the reason you pay them.  Which means that they got to rob you blind, then walk away with all your money and no one even bats an eye.  Since when does anyone in this country get to promise you protection for a fee and then walk away and give you nothing?  Ummmm besides the Mafia, I mean.

And here we conclude the questions portion of our evening.  We will now begin the comments portion.

I get all discombobulated thinking about the airport security question these days.  Because I totally get the need for security.  If I were getting on a plane I would want everyone from the pilot on down to myself to be searched with a fanatic vigilance.  I really don’t relish the thought of being aloft in a bombed out airplane.  However, having said that, I also completely understand the feelings of violation that some of the people feel who have undergone the pat down.  Personally, I think that if I was flying, I would use the machine.  It would serve them right to have to look at that!

Caffeine and alcohol go together like cheese and drill bits.  mmmkay?  Need we say more?  Why yes, I believe we do need.  The fact that this stuff was on the market at all leads me to believe that I could concoct a drink consisting of herbal tea and battery acid and it would be allowed on the market.  Apparently there are no regulations governing this kind of thing.  Next thing you know doctors will be prescribing anti-suppresents and diet prozac.

How sad is it about the stampede on the bridge in Cambodia?  Dang…..

What is UP with all these mine disasters lately?  I realize that this is a question and we’re supposed to be done with that but seriously…..WTF?  Is this designated as mine disaster season on the universal calendar of events?  Where do you supposed one could get a copy of that calendar?  THAT would be a handy-dandy little thing to have, wouldn’t it?

Welp, tomorrow begins my mad dash to try to get Thanksgiving Dinner on the table.  I’m trying to decide what all I can cook a day ahead.  The good news is that the turkey is now slowly thawing in the fridge and I have all the ingredients that I need to cook everything I had planned to cook.  We’ll see how it goes.  Luckily I have a built-in excuse if everything goes wrong: I’m the one with brain damage.  Everyone else however has no excuse because they allowed me to handle it all.  What kind of poor judgement is that?

I also have two deer hides that I have to do something with.  I really hate to start messing with them on Thanksgiving Eve.  It’s really a messy endeavor.  Maybe I will try to take some pictures of the process and we can see how it works out together.

Oh!  One more thing…..MDH is going to be in The Horse Magazine!  He’s building a motorcycle for a contest.  I’ll keep you posted on that too.  Or…you could always subscribe to the magazine.  But I will have the inside scoop.  So stay tuned!

Nadya Suleman

March 26, 2009

Up to this point I have refrained from commenting on this situation.  Now the pressure to speak is about to blow my teeth right out of my mouth.  I think there are several points on which good old common sense is called for.

Let me begin by saying that the most important factor in this entire situation is the well being of all of Nadya’s children.  Period.  Their well being should be first and foremost in everyone’s mind.  They had no choice in their existence and should not be held responsible for, or pay the price for, anyone else’s decisions.

First:  Nadya made bad decisions.  We all know that and there is no argument about that as far as I can tell.  So, enough of the condemnation.  You can’t unring that bell.  Move on.

She obviously has issues in spades.  I don’t know much of anyone who wouldn’t when viewed through unyielding eye of the public.  The spectacular success of her last pregnancy isn’t one of them.  Yes, she was wrong to have the embryos implanted when she was obviously not able to care, by herself, for the six children she already had.  There were many other options available to her besides the implantation.  For example:  She could have used the money she spent having them implanted to store them for a longer time.

You have to admit this one thing about it though: In no stretch of the imagination could anyone have thought that not only would all six implants take, but that two of them would split!  Add to that the fact that all eight survived and you have an astronomically cosmic coincidence.  She couldn’t have predicted the extent of that one bad decision.  No one could have.  I believe her when she said that she didn’t expect, based on her previous implants, that any of this would happen.

She needs help in a lot of areas.  However, that doesn’t make her a bad mother or a bad person.  That makes her a normal human being in abnormal circumstances.  Up until Gloria Allred and the Angels In Waiting team were removed from her house, I never heard anyone say she wasn’t a good mother.  Kids don’t care about anything except whether they are loved.  I believe her kids feel loved by her.  Yes I understand that kids need more than love, but these children aren’t going hungry or neglected.  By whatever means are being used, they are being taken care of.

Second:  This audaciously presumptive idea there has to be “Total Transparency” in everything Nadya does.  That’s the biggest crock I’ve ever heard.  That was an idea I first heard spouted by Dr. Phil on his television show.  Usually I agree with Dr. Phil, but this time I think he’s full of it.  The last thing these children need is to have every moment of their lives debated by ignorant assholes with a media fetish  people who could care less about anything but themselves on national television day after day.  What they need is  “Total Privacy“.  That includes Dr. Phil and Gloria Allred!  Butt out!  Stop inserting yourselves into someone else’s life in order to get ratings and media attention.  The powers that be in her area are on it.  Let them do what they are supposed to do and stop trying to use her to get whatever you can for yourself out of it.

Third: Dr. Phil and Gloria Allred – I’m ashamed of both of you.  If your main concern was truly the welfare of these fourteen children, you would have quietly and without fanfare, gone to Nadya and offered her whatever help you could.  There was absolutely NO need for all of the shows done or all of the press conferences held in order to assist this mother.  I don’t blame Nadya for not wanting any of you around anymore.  If you were using me and mine the way you used her and hers, I wouldn’t want your greedy butts around me either!

Gloria Allred, what makes you think that you have a right to enter a private residence, uninvited, and then make them force you to leave?  You and your ladies could have just as easily set up a time and place away  from all the media AND THE CHILDREN you claim to want to protect, to have your little celebration, couldn’t you?  That should have been a private celebration away from the children.  The fact that you chose instead to insert yourself into someone’s private residence to do it, then make a big deal out of the fact that you had to leave is the perfect indication that your motives are less than altruistic.  Greed for the spotlight doesn’t look good on anyone, Gloria.  You should keep that in mind.

Fourth: Angels In Waiting – Your best bet would be to stop letting Gloria Allred blow smoke up your ass about how much good it would be for your organization to swoop in and “rescue” these eight preemies.  She did you NO favors.  It’s really NOT your place to “set boundaries” for a woman in her own home in regards to her own children.  The fact that you believe you have that right is frightening and speaks volumes about why you are no longer there.  Nadya’s decision to choose her own assistants seems to me a good first step towards getting a handle on what’s going on around her and her family.  “Total Transparency” is not good for her or her children.  NO one needs to try to live their life on a stage for the approval of the public.  That idea is ridiculous and dangerous, not the least reason being that the public will never approve.   And it’s not the public’s business!  What moron decided that it was?

Did it occur to any of you nice ladies that Nadya had MANY places to be every day?  She still needs to spend time with the four children who remain in the hospital, she has to spend time with the six older children every day, she has to supply food for them, she has to deal with the legal issues she now has.  IF she came home at midnight with Gap bags in hand, it is possible that midnight is the only time she HAS to shop for her children!  And regardless of whether YOU think it’s appropriate or not, she has to have a FEW moments for herself as well if she is to continue to try to care for her family.

Please, get away from Gloria “media hound” Allred.  Take a deep breath and relax.  Now, do you really think you came off well by going on a rant about the replacement of a leaking bathtub?  If she hadn’t replaced the bathtub you would have been having a fit about the unsanitary and unsafe conditions in the house……again.  You really can’t have it both ways.  Just accept the fact that it didn’t work out, you won’t come out of all this as the heros you saw yourselves being in the beginning, and let it go.  You’re embarassing yourselves by all this justification.

Let your organization and it’s deeds speak for themselves and you’ll be fine.  I’m sure that in normal circumstances you are all fine and giving people.

And…… on a view I have heard way too often lately by people who have the media spotlight:  Dr. Phil stated today that the legitimate press was too often quoting the internet and therefore reporting false information.      Dear God where do I start with that one?

 1. It is the JOB of the “legitimate” media to check their facts before they report them!    If someone on the internet reported that Dr. Phil was a pedophile, wouldn’t it be the job of the “legitimate” press to check their facts before they reported it?  “I read it on the internet” isn’t really your best defence if you are “legitimate” press!

Dr. Phil also stated that that is a “problem” with the internet, that anyone with a computer can say whatever they want to say!

2. Well DUH!  To quote YOU on your show today, “This is America!”  As far as I know, the right to free speech is still alive and well in America.  Just because you don’t agree, it doesn’t give you the right to condemn the rest of us for speaking OUR minds.  YOU do that too, Dr. Phil.  We’re not out here trying to get your show taken off the air just because you are so incredibly wrong in the way you dealt with Nadya Suleman!  OR because you make your living off the backs of desperate people who need help.  Now are we?  So you can take your dislike of the internet and those of us who speak our minds and stick it where the sun don’t shine.

One last thing for those of you who believe that putting Nadya Suleman’s children in foster care:  You obviously have NO idea what you’re talking about.  I was awarded custody of  my grandchildren only after they spent eight months in foster care.  They were abused both emotionally and physically.  Their very blood was vilified because they had different fathers.  They were turned against each other in a way that was horrifying.  Only now, after nearly six years of weekly counseling, are they able to interact with each other in an almost normal way.  Survival instincts are very hard to undo.

The foster care mother they had no longer cares for children because, right after my grandchildren left her care, a child died.  Unattended in a bathtub.  So, unless you are going to personally guarantee the safety of these children, both physically and emotionally, STFU.  You can’t imagine the devastating effect of being wrenched from your natural parents.  No matter how bad their home was, it was home.  No matter how much you love and care for them you will never ever be their parents.  They will always long for the home they lost.  They will never feel that they totally belong.  They will always feel once removed.  Even when they understand that it was the best thing for them, you can’t take their longing for belonging away from them.  You can never take the shame of being removed from their parents away from them either.

So, unless you feel that total emotional devastation is an acceptable price for these kids to pay for their mother’s bad decisions, please stop talking about it.  It will only hurt them when the person you really want to punish is their mother.

I wish the best for Nadya Suleman and each and every one of her children.  So should everyone who professes to care for the welfare of those children.  And I hope that I don’t hear another word about her for a long, long time.

“Hate Crime” at North Carolina State University

November 14, 2008

After the election of Barack Obama as President of the United States, four unidentified students at North Carolina State University spray painted racist comments in the “Free Expression Tunnel.”  The students admitted to doing it and the university police, state and federal authorities have not charged the students with any crimes at this time.

However, students at the university are calling for a “Free Expression Tunnel Hate Crime Act” in order to prevent/punish actions of this kind in the future.  The NAACP are also calling for “Hate Crime” legislation.

I find this entire incident disturbing on several levels:

1. Does anyone else find it screamingly ridiculous for them to want to censor comments made in the “Free Expression Tunnel”? Name it the “Free Expression, But Only If You Agree With The Majority , Tunnel.”  What kind of idiot thought bitching about what was written in a tunnel with that name was a good idea?  If the tunnel is NOT for free expression, don’t name it that.

2. No one reporting on, commenting about, or involved with this stupidity has yet mentioned that elephant standing in the big, fat middle of the “Free Expression Tunnel.”

3. I dislike the entire idea of a “hate crime” being legislated differently than any other crime.  What this boils down to is that people want to legislate thought and feeling.  When a citizen of this country can be prosecuted for what they think, we have ceased to live in America.

What ever happened to agreeing to disagree?  Every time someone with a different point of view speaks out, people want to run to the legislature to have a law passed against it.  We have come to the point that we believe we have a right NOT to be offended by what we consider wrong thought.

Now, let me just say that I totally think that what was written was reprehensible.  It shows the ignorance, intolerance, and stupidity of the individuals involved.  That’s my personal opinion.  They wrote their personal opinion.  I, for one, don’t want to limit they’re ability to express their opinion because when I’m successful at doing that it opens the door for someone else to limit MY ability to express my opinion. I feel that I have that right because I still live in America (for now, anyway).  One of the foundations our country was built on was that of free speech for every citizen.

I do like the NAACP’s idea of diversity training.  But, again, that’s just me.  If I choose to become an informed, educated, sensible human being then that’s my right.  If you choose to remain an ignorant ass, that’s your right.

I have a very personal reason for not wanting this kind of hatred to spread.  I wish people could get over the idea that the melanin levels in our skin mean something about our character.  That’s my own personal little pipe dream.  As long as we have people who’s self esteem is only raised by lowering someone else, we’ll have people who dog out others for whatever reason they can find.

I think we need to lose the Law Mongering mentality and grab a clue here.  Our new President-elect is a man of mixed race!  The majority of this nation elected him.  People will grouse and fuss and argue and bitch about him just like they have every other president we’ve ever had.  The Bush’s were dogged out because they were Texans.  President-elect Obama will get dogged out because he’s mixed.  Learn to live with it.

One last thing:  Be careful what you wish for.  All of these laws that people want to make up concerning “hate crimes” can’t be implemented to cover only what YOU want them to mean.  Eventually each and every one of you who want them will be subject to them yourselves.  Then YOU will be the one who can’t say what you think or believe or feel.

At that point you will no longer live in the “Land of the Free and the Home of the Brave”.

LeBron James and Gisele Bundchen

March 29, 2008

WTF?

Did LeBron or did LeBron not POSE FOR THAT PICTURE???????

Was he not aware that he had a basketball in one hand and a woman in the other?

Was he not aware of his posture?

Dear Lord where do I start?  Is there some organization I’m not aware of whose main goal is to sift through every single  shred of print or video and make up stupid idiotic things to bitch about?

Now, as near as I can tell, and I looked very very closely, LeBron is black.  That’s right.  I went there.  Don’t you think that if there was going to be a problem with this photo, LeBron might have been one of the FREAKIN FIRST people to notice it?  I mean, he WAS there afterall.  He participated!

I get so pissed off when people start screaming “racism” on be-freaking-half of OTHER people.

Here’s my opinion, for what it’s worth(which is basically not a damn thing):  If LeBron didn’t have a problem with the picture, then no one else has one iota of buisness saying a damn word about it.

How about this fantastical idea?  Let’s save the cries about racism for an actual case of racism?  I fail to see how a man at the top of his game, looking like he stepped right out of a marble statue, with his arms around a beautiful woman is in any way racist, demeaning, or off .

The end.  Where is my valium?

Turtle

October 27, 2007

I just gave my cousin, Turtle,(I call him “my” cousin, he’s actually My Dearest Husband’s cousin, but there is a Turtle shaped space in my heart that only he can fill, therefore he is mine) the information to get to this sight to read this blog so I thought that I would write some things down that I have been thinking about for quite some time now, that pertain to him and other veterans.

Most of this will be only my own thoughts on the matter and not anything I know as fact, so if I’m wrong, feel free to correct me.

Turtle has served our country in several capacities in several places for quite some time now.  I can’t describe him to you physically because, like My Dearest Husband and most of the other people I’m very close to, I don’t really see  him with my eyes anymore.  I see him with my heart and he is massive.

I can’t begin to imagine the situations he has found himself in or the unimaginable things he has seen or felt.  I can’t imagine how hard it would be to suddenly find yourself back home after being in the places he’s been.  The culture shock alone would have to be horrendous.

I get so furious when I hear criticism of our troops or security forces like Blackwater by people who are on opposing sides from ours in a conflict.  I especially get infuriated by Americans who do it.  For the most part these people aren’t there in the situations they are criticising.  What they see is the sanitized version that has been edited for content and cleaned up for viewing on television in American homes.  They weren’t there when it all started.  They weren’t there three hours or three days before when the hinky feeling came over the guys there who are living off of their instincts.  They weren’t standing there charged with protecting someone else’s life when the bullets started flying.  They don’t know what it feels like, what it smells like, what it looks like, what it sounds like.

If you are bound by your sense of duty to your country, which incidentally is what allows you to be reading this blog to begin with and what allows me to write it-someone else’s sense of duty to our country and what it stands stood for, and you are sent to fight an enemy of that country and it’s values and rights, then you are bound to fight that fight to the best of your ability.  Should you then be expected to lose?  Should you be expected to do less than your best?   Should you take the time, while someone is shooting at you and the person/people that you are charged with protecting, to sort out exactly who is who?  How many guys who are or were in Afghanistan or Iraq have you talked to about what it’s like there?  How much do you actually know?  How many of the people talking about how awful the poor Iraqi people are being treated in a gunfight have ever actually been in a gunfight?  Hell how many have had a gun pointed at them?  How many have had one in their hand?  How many have seen, in real life, what a bullet can do to human flesh?  And that is just a bullet.  We won’t even talk about explosives.

How dare you question what anyone does to survive in a wartime situation?  Unless you’ve been in a life and death situation yourself, you have NO idea what you would do.  I tell you this from experience.  And the next life and death situation might turn out different.  You simply never know.  You might be a hero today and a coward tomorrow and a hero the day after.  And eventually the soul learns to just shut down.  We are only made to take so much.  Eventually we have to protect ourselves.  So, even if you have been in a life and death situation, you have no right to judge anyone else.

You take your children and put them in the most alien circumstances on earth, you make them watch, feel, hear, smell, taste the most horrendous things on earth, and then you think you have the right to question them on what they did or how they did it?  You infest their souls with the most excoriating things and then treat them like pariahs when they come home from where you sent them?  If you haven’t been in their shoes and seen what they saw and felt what they felt, you have absolutely NO right to judge them.  Don’t think you do.

If you are so up in arms about what is going on, why aren’t you in the streets trying to stop the fighting?  Where were you when this all started?  Where are you now?  You’re content to hold them responsible for doing what you sent them to do.

It reminds me of one of the most forceful lessons I was ever taught in school  It was in Americanism vs. Communism class.  We walked in one morning to find a new list of classroom rights written on the board.  One by one, as we exercised the rights we were called out into the hall.  Eventually we figured out something was wrong.  Our instructor then explained to us that under a communistic form of government, the people had more rights than anyone anywhere in any country on earth.  But if they were foolish enough to try to exercise those rights they were imprisoned or executed, which is what had happened to those students who had been taken into the hall. (not literally, our teacher wasn’t that gung ho)

We can’t send soldiers into battle and think that the rules that apply in hometown America apply on the battlefield.  They don’t.  And it’s idiotic to expect them to.  You can’t win a war if you’re not willing to fight with everything you’ve got.  You might as well just decide to play a “winner take all” game of checkers if you’re going to try to regulate war by television.  And let’s face it folks, roadside bombings aren’t exactly playing fair.  We are fighting an invisible enemy in Iraq.  If you can tell who is who, why haven’t you called and let the Pentagon know?  This isn’t exactly a game of shirts and skins here.

The fact of the matter is, if the fighting was going on in Akron, Ohio instead of Baghdad, you would be worshipping at the feet of every American soldier you could find that would blow the head off of an Iraqi.  You would kiss the bare ass of every Blackwater employee on earth on the courthouse square at high noon with full press coverage.  And you would wish with all your might for 17 dead Iraqi civilians caught in the crossfire.  And don’t tell me you wouldn’t.

And the next time the network news decides to make you cry over some casualties of war, you might want to try to remember how you felt while you watched the Pentagon burn, or the towers crumble one after the other, or maybe you should try to imagine how that guy felt just before he jumped off one of those towers.   The first thing that came into my mind when all that crap started over the civilians killed by Blackwater was that poor man who had a stock trading company in one of the towers.  He cried all day on TV over his employees who died.  He felt every one of those deaths.  It wasn’t his money he mourned.  It was the families, his friends, the people who died for no reason other than the fact that they went to work to make a living that day.

I don’t mean to sound callous or anything, but there is a war going on in their country and innocent people will die.  That’s really sad.  It would suck if it was happening here too.  But in my opinion, it would suck MORE if it was happening here.  I’m sure they would be happier if it was happening here.  I would feel that way if I were them.

What bothers me more than that is the fact that we send our men and women over there and expect inhuman things from them.  Then we expect them to come back here where we don’t want to hear about it, we don’t appreciate what they’ve done, we don’t want to pay for their health care, we don’t understand what they’ve been through and don’t WANT to understand, and expect them to just slide right back into normal life, like they haven’t been though hell and back several times.

Cripes we piss me off as a nation.  It’s like we sit down and try to decide what the most illogical thought pattern is in any given situation, then go with that!  WHAT THE HELL ARE WE THINKING?

Thoughts For The Day – October 26, 2007

October 26, 2007

Zero Tolerance = Zero Common Sense   This is just an excuse to keep from having to think for yourself.  Anytime a second grade student is suspended for a freakin stick figure drawing and children are banned from playing cops and robbers, we have gone way too far.

Chernobyl spread radiation through the atmosphere and it infested the wombs of all child bearing women as well as anyone with a functioning brain cell and we are seeing the results of that today in the following ways: Homeland Security, Political Correctness, the attack on smokers by lying drunken sex abuser politicians, the American people allowing this to happen, the fact that we allow sports figures to make millions of dollars to play a game but the people who educate our children barely make a living wage.  I could keep listing things until your momma spits up, but you get the point.

Fire should be regulated and taxed.  We should put Homeland Security on that right away.

It is my own personal belief that Homeland Security is about as useful as windshield wipers on a cat’s ass.

It is also my own personal belief that Homeland Security will probably come knocking on my door some day because I’m a threat to…..well…..homeland security, due to my subversive nature.  And the fact that I have the audacity to say they are a crock of shit on the internet.  And that I believe they are the single greatest threat to the American people since 1776.  Any time Homeland Security is in charge of who gets to join the Mile High Club, you have a problem that needs solving, boys and girls.  Think about it.  Lucky for Homeland Security, not many of you read my blog!

If Homeland Security really wanted to secure the homeland, the first thing they would do is execute every treasonous bastard that had a hand in forming that organization in the first place.  Then they would arrest themselves for treason, and then vaporize the organization for all time.  THAT would be some homeland security!

Don’t let other people tell you what is okay and what isn’t.  Political Correctness is just someone else’s way of saying “Do what I want you to do or I’m going to make you feel bad about yourself.”  It’s schoolyard bullshit in it’s most refined form.  Don’t fall for it again.

FINALLY!  Someone had the dump-truck sized balls to say something in Blackwater’s favor!  Give that man a medal!  It’s the saddest thing in the world when it takes balls to say the simple truth.  Americans used to be known for that.  Now we’re not.  What does that say about us?

We need to take care of our soldiers and our veterans.  We need to take BETTER care of them.  We really don’t need to have this explained to death do we?

Don’t be greedy.  It’s unattractive in the extreme.  Nobody likes that about you but you.

Don’t be selfish.  It’s unattractive in the extreme.  Nobody likes that about you but you.

What goes around comes around.  Don’t be surprised when it comes back on you.  You might think you’re being slick right now, but it won’t look so good when you’re on the receiving end.

Play fair.  You learned this in first grade.  It still applies.  The rules didn’t change when you hit twenty-one.

If you can’t tell your grandma about it, you probably shouldn’t do it.

The spell-checker on a blog should include the word “blog” in its’ dictionary!  Seriously!
